Malta–Libya Air Links Grow in 2026: Charter Options to Tripoli

Air links between Malta and Libya are getting stronger. On 22 June 2026, Libyan Express launched twice-weekly flights between Malta International Airport and Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport, becoming the second airline on the route alongside Medsky Airways. In September, ITA Airways also restarted twice-weekly flights between Rome Fiumicino and Tripoli Mitiga, and remains the only EU airline flying to Libya.

Why Malta matters for Libya travel

Malta is under an hour’s flying time from Tripoli and has long been the main gateway between Libya and Europe for business people, energy-sector workers, medical travellers and families. Growing scheduled service shows that demand is returning.

Where private charter fits

Scheduled flights remain limited, so private charter is often the practical choice when you need to:

  • Travel on a specific day or return the same day
  • Fly to other Libyan airports such as Benghazi or Misrata
  • Move a team, equipment or urgent cargo
  • Arrange a medical or repatriation flight at short notice

What to know before you book

Flights to Libya need operator approvals, overflight and landing permits and up-to-date security assessments. Not every operator is willing or able to fly there. YouJet works with experienced operators who regularly serve the route and handle the permits for you.
